Found general W123 procedure, but seems to be some discrepancy with the block drain plug. Unsure if 300D is same as other W123 models. A 4BT is great, a little heavy but great. A Cummins 3.3 a smaller lighter 4cyl is another popular swap in Jeeps. I think you can get a brand new 3.3 for under $4000. I am in the middle of a Mercedes 5cyl turbo diesel swap. OM617.95X engine application (and with manual trans). Has anyone ever experimented by deleting a turbo from a turbo'd engine to see how the MPG suffered (or not)? I've read a bunch where a turbo actually hurts MPG in a gas engine and some pro's and con's relative to a diesel engine.

Weight should be no more than the stock weight of the 4.0 + 10% (~600 pounds) - less weight would be an advantage. For gasoline engines, some sort of variable valve timing is highly desirable, and fuel injection mandatory. For diesels, mechanical injection is preferable to reduce complexity inherent in the wiring of CRDs.

I believe the max stock boost is 12 psi. After that is adjusting the ALDA. The ALDA limits the max available Fuel when there is no boost pressure from the Turbo.
