As far as the 'L' serial number i saw conflicting documentation. one says 1953 the other said 1954. I saw the patent on the Micro groove was filed in 1953 but most 1954 rifles were the ones first came out with the MICRO GROOVE barrels. The "Golden" was added as the gold plated trigger was also added to the 39-A line of guns in 1957. Marlin stopped using the term in 1964, but was re-instated in 1972.
