Mack mp8 good or bad.
Posted August 27, 2016. Have a 2016 Mack Granite 1400 miles, with a regen problem. It will not do a passive regen which results in the filter getting clogged every 4 days. We average speeds of over 60 Mph. The check engine light came on and I took it to Mack. they said that it needed a regen although it did not request it.

Bad turbo could be causing soot build up. Mack usually wants us to remove pipe from turbo to DPF and do a "snap throttle" test to see if the engine smokes bad when reving it up. Remember , if your having high NOX problems, the truck will ask for parked regens to read the NOX levels to see if its clean enough to keep it from 5 MPH derate. If ...The Macks are solid for tough work. I've driven Petes and KW's in the oilfield that were about equal in dependability. Petes and KWs may have a few more creature comforts but I like the Mack too. One thing is for sure, we don't have a terrible amount of emissions related problems with the MP8. The co. brought in some IH's with ISX Cummins.

With the engine is cruising, the EGR valve is supposed to open to allow the carbon dioxide in the exhaust to cool the combustion chamber. If the EGR valve jams open, exhaust fumes are being fed into the engine at all times.
