This has been an issue for several months that I know of. Since the last patch I have only had to do this about 4 times, but now my game will just randomly crash every 10-20 hours. I routinely clear the cache and verify the integrity of BF2042 game files. Any sort of comparison method would work: MD5, CRC, even filesize/timestamp is good enough. Make a copy of the whole game folder after verifying but without running the game. I had an issue where the game doesn't run.... Find the executable file.... bg3.exe or bg3_dx11.exe.... right click and run from desktop... BUT BEFORE YOU DO... turn off Steam. Unless your save are on your SSD, you might not have them... but it ran for me... HOURS and HOURS of trying different things... turning off Steam allowed me to run it.
