My 2002 VTX 1800R rear end holds a whopping 4 ounces of gear oil. It's easy to change, and besides the fact I rode the bike to warm it up for the engine oil and filter change, my hands are already dirty anyway. The only problem I found was in the southern Calif. winters the engine would have a hard time coming up to operating temp.
