Well, I just changed out the CVT fluid with 3 qts of Honda CVT (dang that stuff is $$$) and the problem is still there. It doesn't whine in Park or reverse only in drive. Yes for sure, that's your Nissan CVT transmission that's whining. The fluid is either low or dirty, or there's a more serious fault. Has the fluid been changed? Ideally it should be changed every 30,000 miles, worst case at 100,000. Forgive me for saying this but the longer a noise like this occurs, the more damage it may do to the transmission.

This is my first subi and first cvt car. I do know that the cvt makes noise. I get that. I'm just trying to make sure that the noise that I am hearing is normal cvt operation. The noise sounds almost like a cross between a bad ford power steering pump and straight cut gears. It is mostly noticed after a longer highway drive.
