This is an addition to my just posted reply. I just left a voice mail on my wife's identical phone (purchased at the same time/place) and her phone also does NOT show the red dot with new voice mail. The it does buzz when one is left, shows a missed call dot, and the notification bar shows a new e-mail, but NO red dot on the green voice mail icon.On the s24 ultra (which had a phone app upgrade at the end of Jan), when I receive a voicemail notification I can swipe to remove it off the screen. So I abandoned the setup. What I didn't realize was that my partial setup had suppressed my normal voicemail notifications. In order to undo this problem, I went to Settings -> General -> Apps -> Visual Voicemail. From there I did "Force Stop" and also "Disable" (two separate buttons).
