Lately I've had a hard time finding a good scary book to read. I read all of Stephen King (Salem's Lot) and Dean Koontz (Phantoms) books. Peter Straub (Ghost), Dan Simmons (Summer of Night) they're okay but not some of my favorite. I decided to give other horror authors a chance and found a few I actually enjoyed.

All of DFW's brilliance, without the angst. John Dies at the End is hands down the funniest book I've read, and then it'd be Lamb, A Confederacy of Dunces, and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Breakfast of Champions is also good. John dies at the end is like if Douglas Adams tried to write a Stephen King book.
